Digestive health

Digestive Health and the Ileocecal Valve (ICV)

One of the most common problems that my clients experience is some sort of discomfort in their gut.

Most people don’t appreciate that poor gut health can also lead to diverse and seemingly unrelated issues, such as lower back pain, fatigue, migraines, shoulder problems and autoimmune issues. For this reason, most kinesiology treatments will involve identifying and correcting imbalances within the gut. A healthy body needs a healthy gut.

How Kinesiology Can Help

During a client’s first visit, I often find that the ICV is imbalanced. This is easy to test and easy to correct. Whilst correcting this imbalance, I will ask if the client is feeling any referral to other parts of the body. An imbalanced ICV can cause problems throughout the body. If the client feels sensations or aches in other parts of the body whilst I’m balancing the ICV, this indicates that the ICV is behind that issue.

As we age, we will often benefit from a supplement that will aid our digestion. Most people over the age of 30 will benefit from a digestive aid. Using Kinesiology, it is easy to check and determine which supplement is most beneficial. This can range from enzymes to aid protein digestion to probiotics to restore gut microbiome balance.

What is the function of the ICV?

The function of the ICV is simple. It opens to allow waste material from the small intestine to pass into the large intestine. It should then fully close to ensure that toxic waste is not washed back into the small intestine.

What can cause the ICV to malfunction?

There are many reasons for the ICV to malfunction; therefore, in Kinesiology, I look at the client as a whole to uncover and balance the root cause rather than simply only treating the symptoms. Below are the four main areas.

– Relentless stress, negative emotions/thoughts, upset and arguments, fears, phobias, pressures and anxieties. They all have a psychosomatic effect on the body. The psyche (mind) directly affects the body (soma). Similarly, we can also relate to a “Gut reaction” when emotions are involved. Kinesiology can help negative feelings and emotions through a technique called ‘Emotional Stress Release’

– The digestion of food. Too much raw food, roughage like bran, alcohol in excess, caffeinated drinks, crisps, nuts and even whole grains can cause the ICV to malfunction. Allergies, food sensitivities and a lack of stomach acid (often feels like too much acid with reflux) also can contribute to problems with the ICV.

– Feeling over-tired due to straining the structure of the muscles, bones and organs, or lack of exercise and over-exercising can therefore also upset the smooth functioning of the digestive system.

– The fourth, often neglected vital part of us is our life force. Phones, tablets, PC’s, and microwaves can cause negative energy excesses and deficiencies. Electromagnetic pollution can affect our digestion.
